The shaving bowl
itself is made from a piece of buffalo horn. The horn is split lengthwise
cut open, shaped into a plate under heat, cut and then
again shaped into a bowl under heat.
The bowl lies
perfectly in the hand and allows comfortable lathering of the
shaving soap. The horn was carefully polished and is thus protected by a layer
well protected against soap and water by beeswax. Also, a layer on the soap
remaining moisture does no harm to the bowl - what should be avoided
but (in case cleaning the bowl ever becomes necessary)
very hot water, household cleaners, or even placing it in the
dishwasher or rapid drying on the heater or with the hairdryer.
Horn has a
very pleasant feel - after all, the material is of the same origin as
our skin itself. Each bowl looks a little different because the horn always
has individual grain patterns. The natural material does not release any
pollutants and does not react with the shaving soap.
Also for many
(non-acidic) food is suitable for a horn bowl. Peanuts or
Chips, for example, can be served stylishly in it.
