Combs as precise as if they were made of plastic. But they are made from South American cattle horn. Their style and design correspond to the earlier Irish Horn masterpieces from France. 

These extraordinarily delicate horn combs are crafted with an accuracy that is probably unique for horn combs. 
The light cattle horn is almost transparent at only about 3 millimeters thick and is unusually elastic for horn. 
The cattle horn for the Collegial combs is carefully dried over about 3 years in climate-controlled chambers, the so-called humidors, before being processed into combs. This unique and extremely elaborate drying technique ensures that these very fine combs later do not (or at least hardly noticeably) bend.
