Brush holders are usually not made of brass but of other cheaper metal alloys. 
Disadvantages of these alloys can be corrosion and flaking chrome plating. Also, the alloys usually cannot be bent anymore but break under stress. 

This brass brush holder is guaranteed corrosion-free and - and that is a real advantage! - can also be adjusted to larger shaving brushes using pliers and some skill.
