Neroli is the essential oil of the orange blossom, made from the flower of the bitter orange. The name "Neroli" comes from Anne-Marie Orsini, Princess of Nerola in Italy. She was the one who around 1680 introduced the fashion of using the essence of the bitter orange blossom as perfume in her bath. The bitter orange blossom is the symbol of innocence and fertility.
Adlerholz (Aquilara malaccensis), also called Oud wood, is a very valuable fragrant resin that comes from the diseased wood of certain Asian trees. These trees belong to the genus Aquilarias. They are trees up to 40 meters tall and 60 centimeters in diameter. There are at least twenty species of Aquilarias that produce Adlerholz. The most valuable is Aquilaria crassna when infected with certain fungi or bacteria. Only 10% of the trees are naturally infected, which is why Adlerholz is so valuable. When the infection is complete, the tree begins to produce an aromatic resin called Adlerholz or Oud.
